Persistent bunding information

Team:

we have SAN emc disks connected to hp-ux lclass. how would i add persistent binding information and lun range? what file should have that information?

Shalom,

The SAN is attached to the L box with Fiber. I'm assuming this.

Then you use the fcmsutil program to get the world wide name of the Fiber Channel Card and use it to assign the disk or luns to the Fiber channel card.

You then boot the L box and ioscan should show the disks afterwards.

Assuming you don't wipe out the san config, this is reasonably persistant.

Thanks. But is there not a file that would hold this information? fcmsutil may gather the WWN but what about the LUN range? with different machines attached to SAN how will "mymachine" know what lun range and WWN to use?

Brian,

It will just know. Unlike virtually all other OS's, HP-UX doesn't bind to WWN of the storage, but instead to the FCID of the port the stirage is connected to. There is no file to setup persistent binding, but as long as you don't move your storage around to a different port or change the domain ID of your FC switch then the storage won't move about in a random fashion like it can on windows hosts.

You do however need to make sure that the ports on EMC are setup in the specific host mode for HPUX, or you won't see all your storage - talk to EMC about this one.

Incidentally, we keep hearing that 11iv3, coming 'real soon now', the storage stack has been changed to function a lot more like other OSs.
