Shalom,

Most likely your system would boot up, but it would run poorly if at all.

The only thing you would be able to do is configure swap.

I would use sam in your shoes.

or:
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=806309

This problem is why I go against convention and mirror swap when possible. I want the system to keep running normally if one of the swap disks or mirrors goes offline.

SEP

Anith,

Yes the system can boot up provided the pseudo swap is enabled, which by default is, remember the kernel parameter swapmem_on.

Otherwise as per my knowledge the system should have atleast one device swap area available when the system boots.

So if pseudo swap is disabled in the kernel and if no device swap is available then the system should not boot.

Hope you assign points as you get your doubts clear. :-)

Rgds,

Ajit

The swap contents are undefined as you boot up so it can't be corrupted. Now if you mean that the disk has errors when accessing areas in the lvol, then yes, the system will at least boot up. BUT: any attempt to page out to a bad spot, or use of memory mapped files in an area where the swap area has a defect will immediately cause a system crash. You can be sure that booting into single user mode will not require touching the swap area. Otherwise, it is difficult to guess what applications may need to use swap space.
