Userid longer than 8 char on trusted ia64 11.23 system

As in subject, I need to insert userid longer than 8 characters on a 11.23 ia64 system. Is there a patch to bypass actual limitation?

I saw that they suggest to not use them but I need for legacy migration...

Is it possible to use 12 char-userid?

I think for 11.0 there was a patch to the pam lib module (PHCO_29249), but I would not recommend it!

For 11.23, there is an enhancement in the works right now:
PHCO_33977:
lugadmin(1m) is a new command which enables the system to support long user and group names. It is also used to set the system-wide value of display width. Current support is for user and group names up to 31 bytes.

This patch is available only by opening up a call to the Response Center as it is in controlled release right now.

Note that 'legacy' usually means another computer system so there can be many more issue than just a long user name. Some system will allow spaces in the middle of a user name, other will allow special characters that have meaning to the shell or to regular expression processing, or allow ALLCAPS or allow all numbers or names that start with numbers. Trying to force fit one OS into another is almost always a much larger effort than estimates would show. A first step is to collect all legacy usernames and extract all of the non-standard combinations. That will show the magnitude of the task ahead.

Shalom,

Its an actual limitation that can be bypassed only on 11.23 with a special software install from http://software.hp.com

To install this enhancement is to make the installed system incompatible with other systems of previous OS.

Until HP releases the enhancement for all the systems you have in production, I recommend against it.

can you detail me better what have I to install from software.hp.com?
From man page, it seems that you cannot use lugadmin on trusted system....
