What i meant was you have only 2 simultaneous users through serial port or MUX interface. But can have a lots of users through telnet. The licence is only for serial connectivity not through LAN. When the server is on LAN users can connect using IP (telnet) that is not restricted by this licence and thats the reason why all OS now comes with unlimited licence pre-bundled.

I think that means only two users can login. But these days all servers are with unlimited logins. You need to check with HP on this.

A 2 user licence means at a time only 2 users can login to the system via serial connected terminal.
Whereas with unlimited you can have more users configured to login depending on the kernel parameter.

When a user logs in to the system it reserves a port (say /dev/tty01) so with 2 user licence you cant have more than 2 users getting a tty other than console.(including console you can have 3 simultaneous logins)

i do thought like that only...unlimited users can be created but only two can login at the same time.
but
# who|wc
241 1205 8917
-----
who command shows 241 users!

i am confused with what is that 2users license.

Hi Sekar

two-user license allows one for console access and one user from network access.

Unlimited user license allows unlimited users to access via network.

here is HP system license level web site.

http://licensing.hp.com/swl/view.slm?page=ltype

Regards,
Sung

Shalom sekar,

In reality it means nothing.

There is nothing that will stop you from logging in 20 users on a system with a two user license.

I don't recall taking the time to upgrade any systems to unlimited.

If you install 11i v1 the default is unlimited.

SEP
