Hi guys,

Once again thanks for your input.

I have just inserted a brand new DDS3 tape and threw 13000 files at the drive and restored them with no problem at all so i assuming this is a 'glitch' ?

I will keep my eye on it a bit closer than usual.......a dodgy tape perhaps ???

Hi Sean,

If we analyze the DEV: number in lbolt message, all points to path 0/4/0/0.6.0, By seeing your ioscan output, I can guess that you have connected your HP tape library with HP C1537A as your DAT drive to this server.

This just signifies that there is a problem with the tape drive connections internal to the tape library. Please check the below link to troubleshoot the error further.

http://fritz.potsdam.edu/man/serverhw/hp/tapelibrary-config.pdf

Nothing to worry about, since it just your tape library that needs to be fixed. Be happy that these lbolt errors are not for your root disk :).

Regards,
Senthil Kumar .A

Device 7 is always the SCSI initiator. If this is timing out I would be inclined to suspect a fault on the SCSI board rather than the tape drive. Try a few test reads/writes as you suggested you would do. If they work, keep an eye on it. If they fail, I would suggest a call to HP.

Mark

Hi guys,

Once again thanks for your input.

I have just inserted a brand new DDS3 tape and threw 13000 files at the drive and restored them with no problem at all so i assuming this is a 'glitch' ?

I will keep my eye on it a bit closer than usual.......a dodgy tape perhaps ???

Hello Sean,

There nothing to much to worry about, In our environment we keep getting such errors often.

The error is related to the Tape drive as seen in your message

An I/O error occurred while reading from or
writing to the tape.

do a ll /dev/rmt | grep 0xcd046040
should give you the device that caused this message.

Was a backup/tape handeling activity done at that time.

Read the man page for close and that can shed some light on understanding the error.

Goodluck

Ajit

....not a backup exactly.

Its a script called cfg2html which analyzes all types of information from your system, and produces a nice and easy html file.

Well worth a look at -

http://come.to/cfg2html
