When you add -a option to ftpd, it reads file ftpaccess in /etc/ftpd dir. Also for denying ftp access a user can be added to /etc/ftpd/ftpusers file. Check if your user_name is there or not.

man ftpd
man ftpusers
man ftphosts
man ftpaccess for details.

The user can be denied ftp access using /etc/ftpd/ftpaccess file also. Check that.

Hi,

When you use the -a flag with the ftpd daemon, it enables use of the /etc/ftpd/ftpaccess file. What are the contents of your ftpaccess file ?
You can alternatively remove the -a flag and restart the inetd deamon, or check in ftpaccess file why its not allowing.
Please also refer to man ftpd and ftpaccess for more understanding.

Regards,
Ninad

If you do not find your ftpaccess file in /etc/ftpd directory, then just create the file with vi and then edit the file with the instructions given by: man ftpaccess.
Same thing for the ftpusers file.

Shalom,

ftpaccess is the only way to give ftp access to root, using the stock wu-ftpd daemon that ships with HP-UX.

Might as well open the door and say come on in, because every time you ftp to the server with root and authenticate, the root password is broadcast in clear text to anyone on the network.

SEP
