What is the SCSI ID of the tape drive? Hopefully it isn't 7. If it is, change it to something else and try again.

Pls fix the cable properly and
#ioscan -funCtape
see the result that the drive should come in CLAIMED status.
#insf -e
if problem comes then post #ioscan -fun and #dmesg #cat /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log output.

Is the SCSI termination ok?
Is the cable used Ok?

Have you used the tape device on the server before?

I'm assuming the terminator, and Cable ar ok,
they were used before, and worked ok. This is the first time it's been connected to this
new rp4440 server.

May I know the model of the external DAT drive and also check the firmware status of the DAT drive is it updated.
It looks like some firmware issue with the device we r trying to attach.

Hi,
try to change the scsi port.
I think you have attach the dat to the controller scsi of the internal disk.
You should have two port A and B in the rear of the server i A is not working try with the port B, maybe a problem with the internal termination.
If you have a PCI scsi connect the dat at this port.
