lvcreate using -r N flag

Hi,
We are currently having a debate in the office, as to whether the -r N flag should be used when creating logical volumes on SAN devices, to stop lvm BAD BLOCK relocation?

What are your views or experiences with this?

We are using HPUX 11.11 and a variety of XP128, XP512, XP12K and EVA5000's?

While i'm asking, would you recommend this flag for LV's on local disk?

I would say no. Only for swap lvols I believe is a good practice.

I say the altest EMC/HDS (XP) can handle on its own any bad block in a very efficient way.

Phil, my recommendation is NO NO as hardware arrays can handle the bad blocks better than the LVM. Arrays can either move the block away from one physical drive to another and LVM does not know this and in turn LVM will also try to do the same.

Just to be safe I'll start using the -r N option from now on, and get lvchanging current lv's.
