Dear All;
I have downloaded the new samba, and I need to install it on one of the systems that I have, the downloaded file name is samba_version.depot.gz, however when I tried to decompress it I always get the following message:
"gunzip: samba.depot.gz: not in gzip format"
please help.

Hi,

If you want "SAMBA" on HP-UX, better download HP's modified version of it, called CIFS-Server and Client.

swinstall -s $PWD/samba_version.depot.gz

What your original message means is that the file is incomplete or not in gzip format, which means it may be the victim of a partial download or incomplete transfer.

You are better off getting the depots from Arun's link.

The install command provided in response 2 will not work.

Files must be uncompressed prior to running the swinstall command.

swinstall -s /tmp/samba.depot \*

Will install the entire thing.

The CIFS/Samba client requires a reboot, therefore the command line code:
swinstall -x autoreboot=true -s /tmp/sambaclient.depot \*

The names I give must match the actual file location for correct installation.

What if the file is not compressed and just having the .gz extension.

Where did you download the file?

You can also get the latest samba version at
http://us2.samba.org/samba/ftp/Binary_Packages/hp/

Downloading and transferring requires careful attention to each system involved. The file wil be in binary format using a web page download, but if you are first storing the files on a PC or another system, you must use BINARY transfer mode for ftp to the final destination. Otherwise, the file will be corrupted with ASCII translation codes.
