topic lan0, lan1, lan2 in Operating System - HP-UX

I have two 1000Base-SX cards (lan1 and lan2)and the standard 10/100 lan0 card. Are there any rules or best practices on enabling all three cards at once. lan1 is to become my primary data path. lan2 will become a failover path for MC/SG. I guess lan0 will just be there for the hell of it.

Please consult on any best practices for configuration OR should I just configure them as lan0, lan1, lan2 in /etc/rc.config.d/netconf as normal.

Thanks,

..Joe

HI

I have a similar setup using Service Guard on a 6-node cluster. I use the builtin lan adapter for the SG Heartbeat.

Hope that helps -- jls

Do the primary and standby have to be in a different subnet (or is that just for packages). I can't remember some of MCSG rules.

The primary and standby lan must be on the same physical subnet (network) so that ServiceGuard can move the ip address from the primary card to the standby card when the primary card fails. When the primary card is replaced, or connectivity it restored for any reason then ServiceGuard will move the IP address from the standby to the primary. Only one card will have an ip address at a time.
Peggy
