With The X11 stuff alone you can write X11 apps. Motif is just a set of Widgets for building GUI's like GTK+.

Instead of Motif you can use LessTif, which is free.

Good morning!

Please refer to the following:
---------------------------------------------
>1. HP C/ANSI C Developer's Bundle is a developers toolkit.
Product#: B3901BA
Delivery Format: Electronic Download
Description:
The HP-UX Developer's Toolkit with API libraries
for graphics and multimedia application
development, includes:

X11MotifDevKit

>2. HP-UX Developer's Toolkit
Product#: B3394BA
Delivery Format: Physical Media
Supported technologies include:

OSF/Motif
---------------------------------------------
Question:

1. Is there a difference between X11MotifDevKit and OSF/Motif?
Can we purchase only one type of the Motif Kit, and still be able to
develop full scale applications, or do we need them both?

All of the "Developer's Tookits" have the same Motif bits for the same OS release. The difference between the products is which compilers are included in each bundle.

You don't have to buy motif because it comes with HP-UX OS. But if you are looking for a Motif Development Environment Package (something like a MS Visual Basic Package) that can help you develop Motif based application faster I suggest you get something similar to HP UIM/X and a language compiler like C. Here are the products that I used. Hope it helps.

B3898AA_APZ B.10.20.02 HP C/ANSI C Developer's Bundle for HP-UX 10.20 (S700)
B4904BA B.02.93.01 UIM/X 2.9 S700 10.x
