Hi All,

I need to install a printer on a hpux 11iV2 server, and would like some help on defining the command I should use. Haven't used lpadmin in donkeys years!! There are no other printers configured on the server, this is the first one...

The printer is not hardwired, but is a network printer, on a Novell network, NOT controlled by JetAdmin!!

I have been given the following information -

Printer name on network - wgos297
IP Address - 10.x.x.x
Printer is a HP Laserjet 4250
Driver is PCL 6

Some questions are - Will I need to install the driver? Or is it preloaded with HPUX 11iV2

Do I need an entry on the host file, and use the host name, or configure with IP?

Can I have the same printer name on the server, as the printer has on the network, or do I need to give it a different name.

What's the default naming convention for the device file?

And lastly what would the command syntax look like to create this printer?

Thanks in advance..

Regards,

I believe, since it's not controlled by JetAdmin, that you will have to define it as a remote printer - easiest way is through SAM. You will have to tell it what server it is connected to and what name it is known by on that server - that's basically all there is to it.

Pete
Thanks Pete ... I am trying to find out the server name now (as it's on a client site)... Can I have the same printer name on the unix machine, as it is on the network, or does this need to be differnet?

Regards,

Hi wss.

In hpux, probe conectivity to printer network,

# nslookup wgos297

if ok, then use sam to configure remote printer with name wgos297

if not name conection add in file /etc/hosts,

10.x.x.x wgos297

and add the printer equal first comments.

Verify that you have conectivity,

# ping 10.x.x.x

rgs,

ran
