I'm in the middle of a system install and need to insert disk 2, but when I ejected disk 1 and inserted disk 2, the door won't stay closed.

Does anyone know why this is happening?

Hi Greg,

You can replace the CDROM or maybe your cd eject button is stuck.

Regards,
Sung

I think the CDROM Drive is broken. Is it safe to power down the server when I'm only half way done the install? And secondly, since this would be my first attempt at replacing a CDROM can I just throw any old CDROM in there and do I have to configure it somehow?

Some servers are using IDE drives, others are using SCSI drives. In addition, the drive must be able to boot a HP-UX system, so I would recommend to use a HP spare part.

After replacing the drive, you have to start over the installation.

Shalom Greg,

Either the part is defective, or a script or user that is permitted is ejecting the drive.

I've had one do this before, just replaced the drive.

If you give the model number, a part can be recommended. Few if any third party CD-ROM drives that HP has not certified will work with HP-UX servers.

SEP

@Steven: I doubt if a user command or script is running while installing the OS ;-)

Greg, please provide some more information about your server model and drive (internal?) and we could suggest a spare part or have a look at http://partsurfer.hp.com
