I have an Itenium machine with 3 NICS. I have an DNS entry but cannot seem to bring it up on the network. What's the quickest way to identify which lan the CATV cable is plugged into, other than trying them all in sequence?
Thus far I tried lan0 and lan2 without success.

/etc/rc.config.d#:ioscan -funC lan
Class I H/W Path Driver S/W State H/W Type Description
========================================================================
lan 0 0/1/2/0 iether CLAIMED INTERFACE HP AB352-60001 PCI/PCI-X 1000Base-T Dual-port Core
lan 1 0/1/2/1 iether CLAIMED INTERFACE HP AB352-60001 PCI/PCI-X 1000Base-T Dual-port Core
lan 2 0/3/1/0 igelan CLAIMED INTERFACE HP A6825-60101 PCI 1000Base-T Adapter
lan 3 0/4/1/0/4/0 iether CLAIMED INTERFACE HP AB545-60001 PCI/PCI-X 1000Base-T 4-port 1000B-T Adapter
lan 4 0/4/1/0/4/1 iether CLAIMED INTERFACE HP AB545-60001 PCI/PCI-X 1000Base-T 4-port 1000B-T Adapter
lan 5 0/4/1/0/6/0 iether CLAIMED INTERFACE HP AB545-60001 PCI/PCI-X 1000Base-T 4-port 1000B-T Adapter
lan 6 0/4/1/0/6/1 iether CLAIMED INTERFACE HP AB545-60001 PCI/PCI-X 1000Base-T 4-port 1000B-T Adapter
/etc/rc.config.d#:

/#:lanscan

Hardware Station Crd Hdw Net-Interface NM MAC HP-DLPI DLPI
Path Address In# State NamePPA ID Type Support Mjr#
=============================================================================
0/1/2/0 0x00156004A200 0 UP lan0 snap0 1 ETHER Yes 119
0/1/2/1 0x00156004A201 1 UP lan1 snap1 2 ETHER Yes 119

0/4/1/0/4/0 0x001279436300 3 UP lan3 snap3 3 ETHER Yes 119
0/4/1/0/4/1 0x001279436301 4 UP lan4 snap4 4 ETHER Yes 119
0/4/1/0/6/0 0x001279436302 5 UP lan5 snap5 5 ETHER Yes 119
0/4/1/0/6/1 0x001279436303 6 UP lan6 snap6 6 ETHER Yes 119

0/3/1/0 0x001321BD3D25 2 UP lan2 snap2 7 ETHER Yes 119
If you know your system, you know the relationship between the hardware path and the physical location.
Try to find it out by using

olrad -q
or
rad -q
or review your systems documentation or just tell us the model name.

I assume you know the card where the cable is plugged into, but you don't know which lanx is it, right?

I'm not totally sure, but this looks like a rx4640. if this is true, then

0/1/2/0 +
0/1/2/1 slot 2

0/3/1/0 slot 3

0/4/1 ... 4 port card in slot 5
0/4/1/0/4/0 port A
0/4/1/0/4/1 port B
and so on

I guess this is all you need to know to configure your network.
I saw your reply after I posted my reply, but this confirms my assumption. The slot number is printed on the back and is counted from left to right.

slot 1 and 2 are not printed in this output, because they are not hot-plugable.

Yes, it did, thank you.

olrad -q

is the crux of the matter, and from its output you can correlate HW address with the output from ioscan or lanscan and it makes it real easy.

I just found another document, not exactly related to your question, but interesting too.

Perhaps you decide now to install your card from slot 5 to 7 or 8 for better performance.

http://docs.hp.com/en/SSM1-EL/slotmatrix.htm
