      <description>Hi All &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;In our  setup  we  have one NIS master server and 4 NIS slave server ..The problem is I could not login using NIS user ...Local  user works  fine ..&lt;BR /&gt;NIS  user  gets   authenticated but hangs at this point &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;                           RESTRICTED RIGHTS LEGEND&lt;BR /&gt;Use, duplication, or disclosure by the U.S. Government is subject to&lt;BR /&gt;restrictions as set forth in sub-paragraph (c)(1)(ii) of the Rights in&lt;BR /&gt;Technical Data and Computer Software clause in DFARS 252.227-7013.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;                           Hewlett-Packard Company&lt;BR /&gt;                           3000 Hanover Street&lt;BR /&gt;                           Palo Alto, CA 94304 U.S.A.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Rights for non-DOD U.S. Government Departments and Agencies are as set&lt;BR /&gt;forth in FAR 52.227-19(c)(1,2).&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;This is a private system operated for Hewlett-Packard Company business.&lt;BR /&gt;Authorization from HP management is required to use this system.       <description>&lt;P&gt;Hi Binu,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;The fact that your user is getting past the authentication phase indicates that NIS is at least working well enough to retrieve the user information from the backend database. After that point, I don't believe NIS is involved.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;For the user that stops responding, is their home directory NFS-mounted by any chance? Are they also configured to use the Korn Shell? This looks an awful lot like the classic "ksh .sh_history file lock stops responding" scenario.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;If this is an NFS-mounted home directory situation then you might be seeing an NFS file locking problem and not an NIS problem. If that's the case let me know and I can offer some help with troubleshooting the NFS file locking issue.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Regards,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Dave&lt;/P&gt;</description>
