Hi ..
where can i see an error into the server (a log probably) tha reports me something about high temperature in the environment where is located the server?

This is something that should be reported by EMS (Event Monitoring Service) Diagnostics. Information on EMS is available here:

IF you have EMS and there was an overheating issue, root should get an e-mail reporting it.

is it related with the message sent into syslog.log "OVERTEMP_CRIT WARNING" ?

is there other message?

is the message "OVERTEMP_CRIT WARNING" the only one related with temperature?

what does this report?
where put the output when is activated?
under what circusntances is that activated?

That error in syslog is very important, is that server in a proper air conditioner environment?
Are all the fans working properly inside the server?

Make sure the server have proper airflow from the back and in the front.

And one more thing, is very important that you open a hardware call with HP to troubleshoot that message, before your server gets fried. :-)

These parameters are set in /etc/envd.conf. Others to watch out for are:

OVERTEMP_EMERG
FANFAIL_CRIT
FANFAIL_EMERG

# man envd
for more information on the "system physical environment daemon".

Temperature limits vary. From 'man envd':

Over-temperature and Fan Failure Handling Over-temperature and fan failure handling is supported only on systems equipped with appropriate sensing hardware. Over-temperature and fan failure limits vary, depending on the hardware. Each system processor defines its own thresholds for supported equipment combinations.

Refer to your server manual for specifics on your system. Or post your server model here, and I'm sure someone will be able to look them up for you.

Hi Manuales,

I think the temp for the server to shutdown is 80. The temp in you computer room should be at 68-70. It look like the others answered your question about EMS and syslog's logs.

You did not mention the model of your computer, so overtemperature shutdown may not be available, especially in older systems. Most HP-UX servers will write warning messages in /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log start about 85-90 deg F (30-32 deg C) and will shutdown at about 100-105 deg F (37-40 deg C). However, do NOT use your computer to measure the computer room temperature! See this link:

I know this is very late but we're going through similar issues here right now.

I found this log to be quite useful:
/var/opt/resmon/event.log

When you are having problems with your air cond. it's useful to keep a tail -f going on this log and keep an eye on the MP output for the temperature, depending on your hardware of course.
