Hi

This EVA 4000/6000/8000 does not work like EVA 3000/5000 configured with secure path. You will see all the 4 paths for every 1 vdsik presented. You need to track down/note all the 4 paths every time you present a vdisk.
This is real burden for administrator for keeping tracking down all the paths for each vdisk presented. I dont think so if any other way is there to overcome this issue.

Sri

Hi guys. I've got a rx4640 running HP-UX 11.23 and attached to an EVA4000 and also SecurePath 3.0F SP2. When I present a vdisk to the server and execute ioscan I get the following:

disk 2 0/3/2/0.1.0.0.0.0.1 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP HSV200
/dev/dsk/c4t0d1 /dev/rdsk/c4t0d1
disk 3 0/3/2/0.1.1.0.0.0.1 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP HSV200
/dev/dsk/c6t0d1 /dev/rdsk/c6t0d1
disk 4 0/4/2/0.1.0.0.0.0.1 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP HSV200
/dev/dsk/c8t0d1 /dev/rdsk/c8t0d1
disk 5 0/4/2/0.1.1.0.0.0.1 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP HSV200
/dev/dsk/c10t0d1 /dev/rdsk/c10t0d1

When I check "autopath display all" it displays the following output:

/dev/dsk/c4t0d1 Active
/dev/dsk/c6t0d1 Active
/dev/dsk/c8t0d1 Active
/dev/dsk/c10t0d1 Active

How can I bundle all the alternate paths described in ioscan to a single device file? In the past, I've worked with HP-UX 11v1 and an EVA3000 and when I presented a vdisk I could only see one device file for these. I consider the current environment is not optimal for administration if you have several vdisks presented to the system. For instace, 4 vdisk would be related to a total of 16 devices files when checking ioscan. I would appreciate if someone could tell me if this is how it really works or if there's a way to fix this, so these 4 alternate devices could be presented as 1 single device file. Thanks.
You dont have to bundle the paths. You can use any of this path to create the VGs.Securepath will take care of switching to alternate path in case of failure in the primary path.

EVA 4000 has active-active controllers unlike eva 3000,which is active-passive.
Here you have option to set load balacing between controllers for each LUN.use autopath command to set load balacing.
autopath display will show you each LUNs current load balace settings. You have these options for load balancing

RR Round Robin
SST Shortest Service Time
SQL Shortest Queue Length
NLB No Load Balancing
OFF No Load Balancing

Hope it helps
sajeer
