Spex is correct. I'm not looking for an emulator, rather I am looking for an administration tool to be able to control/access simple telnet sessions (nothing GUI). Thanks again for everyone's help!!!

We have recently upgraded to 11.23 on a PA-RISC system. Most of our users use a basic telnet session to access the system (using term types vt100 and vt320-k). When we were on 11.11, we were using software called DoubleVision by Tridia for remote administration of these sessions. We have recently found out that they do not have a version that supports 11.23 on PA-RISC. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as a replacement for this software? Thank you for your help.

Juiceman,

I would recommend you to go with Reflextion for text mode and Reflextion X for graphical mode, really good interface.

Regards,

Jaime.

Hi,

I don't think he's looking for terminal emulator software. Rather he's looking for a replacement for DoubleVision, which allows an admin to view/control remote sessions, among other things.

If this is the case, you will be interested in GNU Screen:
http://www.gnu.org/software/screen/

And here's some information on DoubleVision:
http://www.tridia.com/products/dv.html

PCS

DoubleVision appears to be a somewhat automated version of telnet, so I would definitely recommend AGAINST using Xwindows tools like Reflection/X and Hummingbird. Xwindows is a graphics protocol and as such is very unsuitable for terminal work -- indeed, Xwindows actually 'steals' the terminal emulator (xterm, dterm, hpterm) from your HP-UX box, and if you go for the CDE environment, it overlays your local PC's desktop with one from HP-UX. And in all cases, Xwindows protocol is extremely inefficient with millions of small, two-way packets, making it unsuitable for WAN and modem usage. And most firewalls block Xwindows due to severe security problems.

WRQ's Reflection for HP is by far the best terminal emulator with very powerful yet simple scripting (macros) language. You may have already seen this using dumb terminal emulations like vt100 and vt320 that HP tools like SAM, swinstall and Glance are somewhat painful to navigate. That's because they work best with a smart terminal such as the 700/9x products or a good HP terminal emulator such as Reflection for HP. As an alternative, QCterm (free from AICS Research) has all the navigation features but without a macro language.

There are other emulators such as PuTTY which emulates the features of xterm, but xterm is also a fairly dumb terminal.
