Not to the best of my recollection. You'll just get DNS resolution errors when you try to resolve to the missing record.

If an A record or a PTR record is missing from a device that's been added to DNS, will this show up in a report or log file of any kind?

Check your syslog.log file. Any problems with running hosts_to_named should show up there.

I was actually looking for a report or log that shows any entries with problems like the A record or PTR record is missing or any other problem for that matter.

I'm not in front of a unix box now but will go into work now because I need a solid answer by tomorrow afternoon.

Thanks in advance.

PS. The DNS boxes are running on Solaris and hope that doesn't make a difference....

I know some folks get ticked off at me for posting questions that sometime relate to Solaris, but I love this site because there are soooo many technically savvy guys here all the time.
