Blocks are made up of fragments which are the smallest amount of disk space allocated to a file. f_bsize is the largest allowable block size for a VxFS filesystem while f_frsize is the smallest. So if your file is 1Kb in size and f_frsize = 1Kb while f_bsize = 8Kb then your file will occupy only one block equal to the f_frsize value.

~cheers

the blocksize of my file system is 8192byte
fstyp -v /dev/vg00/lvol8
f_bsize: 8192

so ,when I touch a file with 1kB,does this file will occupy one block, that also mean it will waste 7KB!
thanks a lot

No it doesn't. f_frsize value is the one that plays here. See for full explanations:

http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=107971
