I want to setup an ignite server for itanium client installation. My ignite server is currently running with 11i v1 and I have no DVD at the client machines. Perhaps can someone list the steps involved please. Thanks in advance.
Please note that I have no itanium or 11.23 clients in the network to capture the image. All I have is an itanium OS cd and a DVD drive in the Ignite Ux server-which is running HP UX 11i v1

basically I need to create an ignite image for itanium clients from the OS CD I have, and perform the ignite installation for the itanium boxes in the network.

Shalom avik,

The document posted above will let you turn any HP-UX system into an repository for multiple versions of the OS.

The key step is the swcopy of the Core OS DVD.

SEP

thank you i saw that doc though.

the problem here is, i hv a new bl60p itanium blade server to be installed with hpux 11.23 but I dont have an 11.23 installation with this customer yet. the blade server normally doesnt come with a dvd-rom but used to hv an option to do a virtual device mount, using that u do the os installation etc. but this server doenst hv a virtual device mount option, also the manual says u can either install the OS using a USB dvd-rom or using an ignite server. like i told we dont hv a 11.23 server in the network to setup an image for ignite installation. i wondered if thrs anyway i can make an ignite image out of the dvdrom or is there a better way around ?

You don't need a system with 11.23 installed to do what you what you want to do. Instead of using an image to install 11.23 on the client you will install it using an 11.23 software depot you create on the Ignite server.

You need to follow the procedure in the manual above, specifically Chapter 7, Section A. You will use the make_depots and make_config commands to create an 11.23 Ignite depot on your Ignite server using the 11.23 DVD. The examples given are to create an 11.11 depot. Mount the DVD and run make_depots to create an 11.23 depot. For example:

make_depots -v -r B.11.23 -s /SD_CDROM

make_config -r B.11.23

Now you can boot the target system from the Ignite server and install 11.23.
