Thanks Michal. I don't see anything in preferences for cataloging files, maybe it's just not in the GUI.

I have downloaded and installed a trial version of data protector on hpux 11.11. We have been using fbackup/frecover for years with few complaints, but are switching to a VTL and want to use a more robust package.

Maybe I've missed something in the documentation, but I cannot figure out how to recover a single file. It wants to always restore an entire filesystem. I can recover the FS to a temporary location and then copy over the file I need, but that seems like a hassle.

Is this really how DP works?

Thanks, Tim

hi,

if DP does not allow you to dig to individual files when setting up a restore session, then the files were not catalogized during backup - you need to turn that feature on, though I am not sure now where exactly is that thingy, but I am positive that someone more skilled with DP will answer.

It depends upon the logging level you chose when backing up. If "Log Directories" was chosen then the granularity is the directory. If "Log All" was chosen then you can point-and-click restore individual files.
