Ivan,

Thanks for your reply.

However, this is not the case.
Dear folks.

We are experiencing trouble with one of our N4000 servers. It is running HP-UX 11.00 (yes, we will upgrade it to 11.i shortly!).

In the mean time, we wanted to add some security patches that we still had not applied.
In order to do that, we do the following steps (roughly):
0.- take an ignite tape
1.- split the OS mirror
2.- boot from in maintenance mode from the split disk to verify that it is workable
3.- boot back into normal mode
4.- apply patches
5.- reboot
6.- roll-back (or reverse merge the mirrors/boot from ignite if needed)

Our problem with this box is that when booting into maint mode to test the mirrors (from either the original or the split one) seems that the console remains in read-only mode for some reason (i.e. we get the prompt but cannot write to it)

The console works 100% OK in multiuser mode and other servers work in all modes.

My guess is there must be some configuration parameter somewhere that sets the terminal (the RS232 console in this case) to read only.

Anyone experienced this before?

Any ideas appreciated!

Thank you,

Xavier.-

Hi, Andy.

Thanks for the link, that helps me with my Wstation setup ;-)

However, in the N4000 case the console works always *BUT* when the single user -or- maintenance mode prompts are shown. At that point, it accepts no input from keyboard.

BTW, we're using Cyclades (linuxplanet based) console servers and there are several other servers connected to the same console server as this N4000.

Regards,

XG.-

Sorry I can't help you out with the console in this matter.

Would you consider using a laptop thru hyperterm? Just a thought.

Maybe someone else out there with the same monitor can help you with the config.
