Techincally the patch does not require a reboot. However, you SHOULD at least stop and restart your applications to ensure they have the correct time settings loaded

With regards to java - if java is not used on the system you do not need to patch it. It is an easy patch to apply - it takes about two minutes to do. Or you could upgrade Java to a compliant version (more work though)

Yes it does require a reboot. As for Java patch it really depends on what you are using...i would recommend going in for all the required patches and have a scheduled reboot....

regards
Mobeen

Here's what the patch information says about it, no reboot required.

Special Installation Instructions:
While it is not strictly required to reboot the system after modifying the rules in the
/usr/lib/tztab file, running processes using
a timezone with a changed rule need to be
restarted to apply the new rules. Processes
like cron(1M), which depend on proper
interpretation of timestamps in the future,
should be restarted as soon as possible.
Processes that only timestamp messages should
be restarted before the changes take effect.

Rgds,

Peter

Can you just manually change the time instead of loading the patch if we cant get a reboot scheduled? When and how would I change it manually?

Technically....if you are so sure that all the applications on your system could be restarted....then there is no need of a reboot. All you would have to do is apply those patches, make the time changes suggested in earlier post and restart the applications.

Word of caution :- remember that if you miss restarting any application/component thats using time....then you would have a potential problem.

Thus to rule this out only a reboot is recommended.

regards
Mobeen

:), ok let me answer this very simple

1. Reboot required.....after DST patches...if you don't know the applications running on your system very well

2. Reboot not required....if you are confident that you know all the applications that are using time..on your server and also you can restart them.

So if you take approach#2 - you need to restart all the applications on your server that are using time.

regards
Mobeen
