Server A is a client to the external server (client's machine). I am not sure why they are choosing to use Server A as the source for the new machine, but maybe it is something to do with access rights as the client server is external to out network and hence access would be through firewalls etc.

We currently have some servers i.e. serverA & serverB setup with NTP so that a couple of them synchronise time with the clients clock.

Someone within our organisation tried to setup some new servers to be clients of serverA for clock synchronization. This has not worked. It has been suggested it could be a problem with regards to the route. What does this mean and what actions need to be taken?

Ravinder,
so server A is getting its time from another server. This means Server A is a client (in NTP terms) to this other server.
Or are you running ServerA as a master ?

Why does your new machine, which wants to use Server A, not use the external server as well? Easier to set up, and fewer points of failure. What would happenn to the clients of Server A, if ServerA is down ?

At the most basic level - can these new servers ping Server A? If not, there is a fundamental connectivity problem between the new servers and Server A.

BTW, the folks over in the NTP newsgroup(s) suggest a system sould be configured to get time from at least three or four timeservers.
