Hi,
I'm insatlling a hpux from the cdrom.
I got the below display . But It seems none of this option is working.any idea

The HP-UX installation utility requires information about the type
of terminal that you are using as the system console.
The terminals supported are:

1) HP type terminals.
2) VT100 type terminals (and VT100 emulators).
3) Wyse 60 type terminals (and Wyse 60 emulators).

Shalom,

It kind of depends what type of terminal you are using.

A serial console needs to be configured by its function keys for hp(11.00) and EM100(11.11).

Doing it from a laptop using hyperterminal indroduces new variability.

Hi ,I'm using a lantronix console ...and accessing a console from a terminal window of the sun server.Please let me know if i need to know more info.

Wow...so the real terminal is not a terminal at all, it is some program on the Sun which is connected to the Lantronix server which connected to the console of the HP-UX box. I'm going to take some wild guesses...this is a new box such as an rp---- series and the Lantronix is a serial port server, not a KVM switch. Now it gets complicated. Are you on a PC running Xwindows and using xterm or are you using hyperterminal to connect to the Sun box?

As you can see, the 'real' terminal is buried under many layers and the real answer depends on where your physical keyboard is connected. Most likely you are using some sort of dumb terminal like a vt100 but the HP ROMs don't know that and part of the codes listed above: a15y23C look very much like HP smart terminal cursor addressing. So again with my crystal ball, the HP box (unknown model) is expecting an HP terminal.

Most likely, this is a GSP-style processor interface and the internal ROMs have been set to HP mode. Unfortunately, the install media can't override this setting so you need to interact with the GSP before installing. Cancel the install with CTRL-B and you'll see a GSP login request. For new machines, the login and password are null, so just press Return a couple of times. Once logged in, type:

and you'll see the console access menu. You will likely see a line: Local Console Serial Port Terminal Type: hpterm which is the problem. Answer y to modify, then press return twice (default answers = N) to get to the Terminal Type value. Type vt100 and return, then y to confirm. Answer n to the remote config and then type rs to reset the system and start rebooting. Now the processor ROMs will tell the install media that you have a vt100 terminal.

Normally, HP-UX boxes are ordered with an HP terminal which is not an emulator on a PC and all of this is much simpler.

the system cannot get your terminal type. This is the reason for the question:

The terminals supported are:

Enter the number corresponding to the terminal type
that best matches your terminal (default: 1):

Now you have to enter either 1, 2 or 3.

Setup your terminal emulation for one of this types (e.g. vt100) and enter "2".

I would prefer to use something like putty or hyperterminal and connect via telnet, ssh or serial.

@Bill, if you order a console for a HP-UX server, you will get something like this nowadays, but you will have a nice hpterm emulation on it:
