What is the procedure for reading a DOS CDROM? Using the dosls command with the rdsk driver returns "open" errors. Thanks.

Mount the cdrom, try this syntax.

# mount -F cdfs -o cdcase /dev/dsk/c?t?d? /cdrom

Replace c?t?d? with your CDROM device file.

The drive mounts OK, but I still can't read the files. The "ls" command lists filenames and says they're not readable. The dosls command complains of errors, both with the block and character drivers for the CD.

find out what type the files are before you open them.
file /cdrom/filename
consider the command dos2ux for text files
and or strings or suitable app for binary files.

What type of CD are you working with? Is it one that was created on a CD-R? I'd also go with Bill's suggestion.

The original problem that kicked this off was trying to load version 10.20 on a B180. The disk we have does not have the driver for the on-board lan interface (the btlan3 driver). I downloaded the ACE patch file from the hp web site onto a PC and created a CD containing the (ASCII) file. I am now trying to copy that file onto the B180 hard drive to add the lan driver.

Make sure you write the CD with a ISO 9660 or
Rock Ridge filesystem type. The HP-UX cdfs driver
works best with CDs in ISO 9660 format. To use a CD
in Rock Ridge format you should mount the CD with
pfs_mount instead of the normal mount.

If you wrote the CD in Joliet mode (the usual filesystem
type on Windows CDs) HP-UX may not be able to read it.
