hi guyus, i wanted to know that if i make an ignite tape with make_recovery will that be as ok in recovering as i would recover with a make_tape_recovery.. Like any changes in menu options when i am reviving the system ...

make_recovery has been obsolete for many years...so I would never recommend using it UNLESS you have very, very old hardware. The Ignite code is very dependent on the I/O cards, tape and disk devices. Now if you are running obsolete HP-UX on your very old hardware, then the make_recovery program might be all you have. If you have both versions, always use make_tape_recovery. NOTE: the options are NOT compatible.

Now if you are stuck with a make_recovery tape and cannot recreate the tape with mtr, yes, you will have a very similar menu with the old version. The interactive menu is always available but unless you use the correct option in building the tape, you will have to interrupt the automatic restore (in either version). Never make an Ignite tape without the interactive-restore option set.

make recovery is only available on 10.20 and below. Whereas make tape recovery is available from 11.x onwards. If you use make recovery to do a ignite backup on the root disk, as long as the media is working during the ignite backup I would say whatever iss backup in the entire tape will be restore to the original state as your existing configuration on the server. The same goes for make tape recovery. Only work for vg00 .
