Ramon,

We do fbackup up nightly. We do have the latitude of rebooting nightly to kick people out.

That said, is this a database server?

We perform nightly exports of our databases and we run archives of the primary database engine.

With Fbackup you can use a graph file to include/exclude directories or file systems.

In order to assure you don't have anyone on the system and a file in use (and thus ignored by fbackup). you will need to have a scheduled downtime.

I support K12 schools in a very small area, and I can take my system down from 11PM to around 3:00AM without causing anyone heartburn.

Even 24 hour banking systems I've dealt with in the past will generally perform a full backup on weekends..

You may want to discuss it will the "powers that be"

Our Informix database I can get live archives off at anytime. You may want to check your db vendor as well as checking the OS.
Another thing you may want to consider doing is ignite.

It has been a real saver a couple of times.
