Where to look for the default password settings on machine.

Settings like:

1. Password length

2. Maxweek

3. Minweek

4. Number of times the system allows to enter password for a failed password.

Jim

passwd -s (name) will give you what you want, I think. From the man page:

-s name Display some password attributes associated with the specified name. Superuser privilege and non-trusted mode is required if the files repository is specified. The format of the display will be:
name status mm/dd/yy min max warn

Pete

Jim,

Is your system trusted or nottrusted ?

If your system is not trusted, then you know the items 2, 3 and 4 are not applicable to begin with.

If your system is trusted, then you can use the following commands to gather the info

# /usr/lbin/getprdef

==> this is system wide settings

# /usr/lbin/getprpw <USERNAME>

==> individual user settings

You can define some of these parameters in /etc/default/security as well.

Refer manpage of prpwd for the description of the fields in the output of above commands

Sundar.</USERNAME>
