      <description>Hi&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;I have added a printer.&lt;BR /&gt;first I had to install the software  JetDirect&lt;BR /&gt;# swlist -l product |grep -i  JetDirect&lt;BR /&gt;  HPNPL                 E.10.34        Hewlett-Packard JetDirect Printer Installer for &lt;BR /&gt;Unix&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Then I used sam to add the printer.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Now I would like to test the printer but not sure on how to do it...&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;# lpstat -r&lt;BR /&gt;scheduler is running&lt;BR /&gt;# lpstat -u&lt;BR /&gt;no entries&lt;BR /&gt;# lpstat -p&lt;PRINTERNAME&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;printer &lt;PRINTERNAME&gt; is idle.  enabled since Apr 16 17:44&lt;BR /&gt;        fence priority : 0&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;# cat /tmp/test.txt | lp -d&lt;PRINTERNAME&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;request id is &lt;PRINTERNAME&gt;-2 (standard input)&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;but when I do want to check nothing&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Could you tell me what is the correct command to print a text file or something&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Thanks in advance&lt;/PRINTERNAME&gt;&lt;/PRINTERNAME&gt;&lt;/PRINTERNAME&gt;&lt;/PRINTERNAME&gt;</description>

      <description>the command appears to be correct however did you run lpstat after you ran the print job?&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;you can also type&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;--&amp;gt; banner TEST |lp -d&lt;PRINTER&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;also check to see if the print jobs are reaching the queue directory ...&lt;/PRINTER&gt;</description>

      <description>Hi&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;cd /opt/hpnpl/bin&lt;BR /&gt;./hpnpadmin -s printerip&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;If that gives an answer then use hppi to test&lt;BR /&gt;the software and send a test page without the spooler.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;If that is ok&lt;BR /&gt;lpshut&lt;BR /&gt;lpsched -v&lt;BR /&gt;lp -dprintername /etc/hosts&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;If that does not work /var/spool/lp/log should tell you why&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;       Steve Steel</description>
