printers need help

Hi

I have added a printer.
first I had to install the software JetDirect
# swlist -l product |grep -i JetDirect
HPNPL E.10.34 Hewlett-Packard JetDirect Printer Installer for
Unix

Then I used sam to add the printer.

Now I would like to test the printer but not sure on how to do it...

# lpstat -r
scheduler is running
# lpstat -u
no entries
# lpstat -p
printer is idle. enabled since Apr 16 17:44
fence priority : 0

# cat /tmp/test.txt | lp -d
request id is -2 (standard input)

but when I do want to check nothing

Could you tell me what is the correct command to print a text file or something

Hi

GO to /opt/hpnp/bin/
Run jetadmin and then you can diag. or take a test printouts from your defin printer

the command appears to be correct however did you run lpstat after you ran the print job?

you can also type

--> banner TEST |lp -d

also check to see if the print jobs are reaching the queue directory ...

Hi

cd /opt/hpnpl/bin
./hpnpadmin -s printerip

If that gives an answer then use hppi to test
the software and send a test page without the spooler.

If that is ok
lpshut
lpsched -v
lp -dprintername /etc/hosts

If that does not work /var/spool/lp/log should tell you why
