My guess is that landscape is the default orientation for the printer.<BR /><BR />Attached is an alternative interface script which sends the file through the PCL5 model before passing it to the rlp command so that the expected lp options will work (ie lp -oportrait). This won't work if your printer is not PCL5-capable.
