hi,

i have a SAN consisting of 2 EVA, 2 rp3410, 2 rp3440 and one msl6030. i did an upgrade to the san by joining 5 proliant servers (using fc2143 cards p/n::ad167a).

after i connected everything, i updated the zoning by joining these servers to a zone covering MSL and the RPs servers. now the ioscan takes a very long time to finish. if i remove the new FC cables, all go back to normal.

help please

Hi,

I would zone the tapes and the disk seperately.
Additionally, create a seperate zone for the RP's and the proliants.

I guess this will work better and prevent problems.

thx for your fast reply.

i tried what you said. now the new proliants are in a new zone with the MSL6030. the servers can see the MSL and the drives, but when i try to configure the backup devices under dataprotector, the interface hangs on 4 out of 5 servers. (i was able to configure only one server)

i checked the FC switch, i found that 4 out of 5 have port type F port, and the fifth port U port,(corresponds to the server working correctly.)

any suggestions?
As stated before 'tis good to keep Windoze and HPUX separate. What kind of upgrade did you do? Did you simply aggregate the servers together into one large zone or did this involve combining switches as well. How many switches were present before and after the upgrade? Post the elapsed time for the comands below:

# ioscan -funC disk
# ioscan -fknC disk

the last command scans the devices in the kernel and should be significantly faster than the one above it.

I would at least create a zone for the RP's:
one for the servers + disks,
one for the servers + tapes
and the same for the proliants.

I would expect F-Ports for all devices.
Did you add your zones to the current config?
