Shalom Vinu,

Assuming you are in a corporate environment, the DS configuration above is the way to go.

You will have to write a script to check your filesystems, though I may have one for you sitting at work.

The SMS part is trickier. If the SMS accepts mail to an email address it will work, otherwise you'll need to interface with a GSM system or other SMS type server to get your messages out and will not be using Sendmail for that.

SEP

Hi.

What are you trying to do with sendmail? You are going to have to be more specific as sendmail is very customisable.

Whole (very thick) books have been written about configuring sendmail so we would be able to answer some specific questions if we had some more detail.

Regards

Andrew Y

hi andrew,

I want send mail to send e-mails to some purticular mail id's or mobile numbers(as sms), whenever any error is coming in syslog.conf, or any file system become 100% .

regs,
Vinu

Hi Vinu

Sendmail will in itself not do this for you, unless you really want it to get fancy.

Do you have a regular email server that sends your email, you may want to send your email through that server. It is possible to configure sendmail relay email from the HP-UX server to that server. This is the recommended route. If this is the case I can assist you with this.

Regards

AY

Hi Vinu

Assuming your sendmail is not configured:

Make a copy of /etc/mail/sendmail.cf

Run the following script:

/usr/newconfig/etc/mail/cf/cf/gen_cf

with at least the 9 and 10 options.

Copy the sendmail.cf.gen file to /etc/mail as sendmail.cf

Change the following settings to the sendmail.cf file...

DM
becomes
DMyourmaildomain.com

DS
becomes
DSmailserver.yourdomain.com

The DM macro is for masquerading and will send all outgoing mail as being from that domain and not the servers Fully Qualifeid Domain Name (FQDN) and will make sure there are not problems if mail gets returned or if the recipient checks for a valid sender domain.

Make sure that the user you are sending this email from has a valid return address configured on your mail server.

The DS macro tells sendmail to relay outgoing email through your mail server instead of trying to deliver it itself.

Restart Sendmail.

Use mail or mailx to send a test message.

Note that this is a very basic configuration.

HTH

Andrew Y
