topic sendmail error. in Operating System - HP-UX

sendmail error.

Hello
when I try to start sendmail I get this warning error:
(NET-dbsvr7) /etc/mail# /sbin/init.d/sendmail start
WARNING: writable directory /var
WARNING: writable directory /etc
WARNING: writable directory /etc
/etc/mail/aliases: 6 aliases, longest 9 bytes, 76 bytes total
sendmail

When I try to sendmail to root I get this:
/etc/mail# sendmail -v root
/etc/mail/sendmail.cf: line 0: WARNING: writable directory /etc
/etc/mail/sendmail.cf: line 662: WARNING: writable directory /etc
/etc/mail/sendmail.cf: line 665: WARNING: writable directory /etc
WARNING: writable directory /var
WARNING: writable directory /etc

Can someone tell me if this is an issue?
Or how to fix it? I already loaded the new sendmail.cf file from newconfig.

Hi Richard,

Check the permissions of /etc /var
it should 555 (dr-xr-xr-x) and owned by bin:bin

I did
dr-xr-xr-x 21 bin bin 1024 Jul 27 11:34 var

dr-xr-xr-x 26 bin bin 6144 Aug 10 21:19 etc

Which version of sendmail are you running?
One of the ways of finding the version is
what /usr/lib/sendmail |grep version
