topic Another 'hung console' question in Operating System - HP-UX

Our RP5470 console is not responding to keystrokes.
I have tried all the standard fixes:

- Power it off, press and hold 'd', power on (to reload defaults)
- kill the console process and let it respawn
- ensure that 'Remote Mode' is enabled
- checked wtmp, it is about 100k
- tried swapping the keyboard but got the same results
- telnet in from another server and run:
stty +resetGSP- And I have searched the forums

After respawning a console, the Login prompt appears, but no keystrokes are accepted, and no characters from the keystrokes appear on the screen.

After the resetGSP, the console shows the normal GPP messages, but a CTL-b does not do anything . Neither does 'CO', 'RS', etc

I noticed that every keypress causes the console to make a 'beep' noise similar to when a PC's keystroke buffer fills up.

Any thoughts?
Do the beep sounds caused by a keypress indicate anything?

Hi,

try to connect to the GSP over the network and try to connect another terminal/laptop to the serial port to ensure the GSP is still working. If this is OK, your console is probably broken.

I guess there is a problem with this console, because you can see some messages.

Shalom,

Looks like a bad GSP card to me.

IF you have a different console try it, otherwise use network based connnection and see how that goes.

SEP

Problem fixed.

After reading the replies (Thanks Torsten and Steve!) I went to swap the console. AS much as I hate to admit it, the cable connection was not tight! A few turns with a screwdriver fixed it. Strange, because the display worked but the keyboard wasn't able to communicate to the server.

Well, maybe the steps I posted might help someone else some day.
