It is still not working with short hostname
Looking at name resolution order etc all looks okay. Client Windows PCs are on same domain. Not sure what is the problem.

Any other recommendation/suggestion or comment?

We have CIFS/Samba version A.01.10/2.2.8a installed on a N4000 server with HPUX 11.11
This server is Samba server in a workgroup configuration setup.

We are facing problem intermittently while accessing Samba shares through windows client
using \\<SAMBA serer="" hostname=""> giving error "network path was not found".

But it works just fine when we use FQDN of the host with the share. We are using a WINS server and this problem only happens this prticular host. Another host with same setup just works fine with just \\<HOSTNAME> all the time.

It maybe a name resolution problem , DNS issue but I couldn't pin point in this direction.

Does anyone know what could be the problem?

Thanks in advance</HOSTNAME></SAMBA>

Do you have configured:

wins server =

In your smb.conf file? Can you post the output of testparm?

Yes WINS server is defined in smb.conf file

The Global section of the "testparm -s " is attached herewith.

Please put the FQDN of the windows pc in /etc/opt/samba/lmhosts and /etc/hosts on the HP-UX server.

If still you get problem, put the FQDN of the HP-UX server on
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\lmhosts and hosts files.

Regards,
Rasheed Tamton.

Shalom

smb.conf

password server = *

Also can help if you have multiple domain controllers.

This is likely a problem on the PDC not the HP-UX system. Check the samba.log file locally, the event logs on the windows PDC.

You are right about DNS, often times DNS can cause this. If you make sure your DNS system is redundant and never stops giving service you can make this issue go away.

SEP

>If still you get problem, put the FQDN of the HP-UX server on
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\lmhosts and hosts files.

Did you put the FQDN on
1.
