URGENT! I am giving a talk at HPWorld. A case study on our homegrown package which monitors hardware and Operating System for critical failures.

Let's make sure I am familiar with all the commercial packages that perform this function. If you know the names I'll RTFM.

BTW our homegrown package works by recognizing key console messages from *every* source and sending emails. Hey! It's an old concept, but we've taken it to an extreme.

Hi Paul:

HP's answer to this IT/O (IT Operations) or its new name VantagePoint Operations. It is part of the OpenView suite and includes Network Node Manager. It can monitor system logs, SNTP traps, and can look at various system activities through 'monitors'. Agents can reside on many different platforms (other unix, WinNT, W2K, Novell, MPE?) withing the IT/O cell. All report to the central manager and action can be taken automatically, users can be emailed/paged.

Regards, Clay
