Ignite is the preferred way to go for extending the "/" (root) filesystem as it needs contiguous extents. lvextend will not be able to extend the filesystems like boot, root and swap which need contiguous extents.

~hope it helps

/ has to be contiguous. About the only way to extend / is to recreate vg00. The simplest way is to make an ingite backup of the system, and perform an interactive ignite restore from the tape. This will allow you to change the size of / (and any other vg00 mount points)

for the future you should know that /, /stand. and swap need to be contiguous.
