Hi:

HP-UX 11iv2 (11.23) is far more feature rich than 11iv1 (11.11). Moreover, features that appear in 11iv3 (11.31) may be back ported to 11.23 (v2) whereas the same feature may never appear in 11.11 (v1). The recent port of 'vgmodify' from 11.31 to 11.23 is one good example.

With any release, a summary of new features can be found in the opening chapters of the installation guide. For example:

http://docs.hp.com/en/5187-2725/ch01s04.html

Regards!

...JRF...

Well (at least for PA-RISC) 11iv1 = 11.11 and 11iv2 = 11.23 so the difference is 0.12.

Search docs.hp.com for the differences. Almost anything that will run on 11.11 will run on 11.23 but not all boxes will run 11.23. The first thing that you need to check is if your platform is supported.

One of the best features of 11.23 is that many of the really nice features of 11iv3 are being back-ported to v2.

Shalom,

I think all things being equal 11iv2 has advantages over 11iv2

This is just examples.

1) EMS based kernel monitoring with alerts.
2) More dynamically changeable kernel parameters.
3) Strong random number encryption built in
4) Possibility of running NFS v4.

The two OS' have the same end of support date, though 11.23 has a much greater chance of being extended.

SEP

Hi:

> Steven: Possibility of running NFS v4.

At present, NFSv4 is available only for 11iv3 (11.31), which in turn became generally available in February 2007.

http://h71028.www7.hp.com/ERC/downloads/4AA0-7689ENW.pdf

Regards!

...JRF...
