Mr Torsten Sir...I only assigned the disk once...actually I already tried the following:

- remove the disks and assign them twice and it was a diferent error...

- remove the disks and assign them again and the error was the same...

But thanks anyway :-)

STP

Hi

I have a situation here that I cannot understand...any help would be appreciated.
I have 2 virtual machines in a host. I added two disks from a Symmetrix and attributed them to one vm like this:

# hpvmmodify -P vm004 -a disk:scsi::disk:/dev/rdsk/c26t0d4
# hpvmmodify -P vm004 -a disk:scsi::disk:/dev/rdsk/c26t0d5
HPVM guest vm004 configuration problems:
Warning 1 on item /dev/rdsk/c26t0d4: Device file '/dev/rdsk/c26t0d4' in use by another guest.
These problems may prevent HPVM guest vm004 from starting.
hpvmmodify: The modification process is continuing.

I don't understand why this warning happened. I check the device with hpvmdevmgmt -l all|grep vm004 and ...

/dev/rdsk/c26t0d4:CONFIG=gdev,EXIST=YES,DEVTYPE=DISK,SHARE=NO:vm004:MACAFÕ§_ÿÿ751064ACA000MACAF

here "he" is SHARED=NO and I also made a vgdisplay -v |grep [disk] to the online and the alternate devices...not being used...
What more can I do?
Is there any problem?
How can I check the disk to have sure I won't have problems in the future?

Thanks in advance!
STP

Hi Torsten

That is exactly the problem...the system says it is already in use but it isn't.
According to hpvmdevmgmt and hpvmstatus commands the disk is owned only by vm004.
I made a vgdisplay -v because I wanted to make sure that the device files (online and alternate) are not being used in another volume group...even though that is not expectable by logic...
Thanks anyway, tell me if you have more ideas.

STP

"owned only by vm004" - that's it!

It is already assigned, you cannot assign it a second time.

Not sure about the current status - can you see the disk in hpvmstatus -P ... ?

Be aware you cannot assign alternate pathes.

Hi

Yes, I see the disk when I make a hpvmstatus and...as I said before...he appears assigned to vm004 as NO_SHARED when I make a hpvmdevmgmt -l all
Everything looks perfect...I could go home and sleep tight over this...but that warning came up and it has a very upsetting line that is "These problems may prevent HPVM guest vm004 from starting."

About the alternate paths, I know that but I truly appreciate your concern...it could be it indeed.

STP

I would try to find out the alternates pathes and check the current HPVM's if one of them is already in use. If yes - this could be really bad ...
