To clarify, Rick asked "Are you asking about support as in HP takes calls and resolves issues, or simply support as in "works?"" To which I answered that HP should take calls and resolve issues and that the release notes and admin manual would specify that guests can run SLES 10. I did not mean that I had actually read that yet in the notes or manual.

I took Debbie's answer as a friendly voice from HP giving out some much appreciated future info since in a previous thread she added "Integrity VM program manager".

http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1093830

I don't think we will be ready before the end of the year to use any Linux on Integrity VM, so the end of 2007 works out okay for us and helps us with our planning.

Marlou

Shalom Marlou,

I agree that Debbie does talk like an HP person, especially her second statement.

It would be nice if her profile identified her as such.

I would not count in my future plans this happening on any kind of schedule. I've talked to HP people at shows, in email and through other means and heard a lot about future plans, even stuff that was in test.

Not all of that happened, in spite of sincere efforts on the part of those I spoke with.

I'd push my HP rep on this, and not treat this as an official announcement, or even a trend you could bank on.

I will say I have heard information that agrees with this and since Suse is supported as a host OS on Integrity, its logical be assume it has the potential to run as a guest.

SEP

Hi SEP,

I totally agree with you. I've worked with HP computer systems for long enough (since 1973) to know not to count on anything until you actually see it. Although, I think it is a safe bet that the names of existing products will get changed (e.g., Omniback vs Data Protector).

As far as an account rep goes, I have not seen nor talked to one of those in several years.

Thanks for mentioning you have heard similar info. Luckily, we have no urgent needs yet.

Marlou

IMHO, the most important step will be the support for 11.31 for the host. I believe the development has this focus at the moment.

But if I remember the history of this product in the last months (v3 followed v2 within ~6 months) and HP's focus on virtualization I'm sure you will see the next version very soon (even with S.u.S.E. (former "Software- und System-Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH") support).

It is interesting that the guest can be 11.31 but not the host.

Okay, why will S.u.S.E support be in version 4.2?

Marlou

The first official SUSE release came out in 1996.

It was version 4.2.

Many rumours say, this is the background:

"The Answer to The Ultimate Question Of Life, the Universe and Everything = 42"

(The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Answer_to_Life,_the_Universe,_and_Everything

see this too:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suse_linux

;-)
