Netgroup map problem in HP-UX NIS master server(11.11 )

Hi All ,

What could be the reason if the netgroup maps are not getting updated or not getting reflected for all the entries in the NIS database.

Hi,

being nothing exotic, I would do a common check of the NIS configration of the site:
- gets a new version of a NIS map generated when the base file changes
- check availability of all NIS servers
- check all NIS servers, if updates get promoted
- check /etc/nsswitch.conf files
- check NIS binding

As a starting questions:
- did it ever work
- what was changed recently

Have you run yppush on the appropriate maps from the server?

What is the output of ypwhich on the clients?

I added a new system to the netgroup and excecuted /var/yp/./ypmake

But it is not getting reflected at the client side.

If I give ypcat netgroup , the output doesn't shows the newly updated system.

Any views or suggestions on this??????

How? Where? Whom does "ypwhich -m" say is
the master for that map?

Where? On a client, on another NIS (slave)
server, on the master server?

Good question.

It's often helpful to say exactly what you
did (and what happened when you did it),
instead of giving only vague descriptions.

If it's a new group, ftp it to the slave server(s). Once it's in place, it will be done automatically in future.

Hi Steven,

I had added the new workstation name to an existing group of the netgroup file of NIS configuration(/usr/nis/netgroup) in the foolowing format " (hostname,, )".
and updated the nis configuration by excecuting xxx@var/yp# ./ypmake

I don,t have any NIS slave servers also.

If I excecute ypcat netgroup in any of the clients, it doesn't shows any of the newly added clients

do have any suggestions??????

That's not very good NIS management, is it?
What happens when the master goes down?

I don't actually use NIS on my HP-UX system,
but what's in "/usr/nis", and who cares? On
my system:

dy # uname -a
HP-UX dy B.11.11 U 9000/785 2012616114 unlimited-user license

dy # ls -l /usr/nis
/usr/nis not found

and all the NIS stuff is in /var/yp,
including the Makefile which says that it's
looking for /etc/netgroup, not for
/usr/nis/netgroup, and the ypmake script
(Ooh, that's weird -- you don't just say
"make" in /var/yp?) says that it's looking
for /var/yp/`domainname`/netgroup. (Or am I
missing something obvious?)

So, when you run ypmake, does it do anything?
If you "touch" your netgroup file, and then
re-run ypmake, does it do anything
more/different? (That is, is anyone looking
at the netgroup file where you're making your
changes?)
