There is no "off" position - just on, service, standby - anybody have a clue what sequence you use for a reboot?

I have a k-580 that has become non-responsive. It does not respond to telnet and the console seems hung. I know that there is a key reset and a toc button - I was hoping to get a set of steps that will start with the "nicest" reboot, to the one that is required in the most stubborn instances. The lcd on front shows that it is in normal run mode...Thanks

It essentially makes no difference. You can TOC the box by inserting something small into the hole at the bottom of the core i/o card and that will halt the system instantly. At this point, turning the key to the "Off" position makes as much sense as anything. With vxfs filesystems, recovery without problems is almost assurred. Although the /stand filesystem is hfs, /stand is all but a read-only filesystem so that should present no problems.

Michael,

The first thing I would check is that the key switch is in the "ON" position and not "Standby". After that, I don't think you have much choice but to initiate a TOC. The TOC switch is on the far right of the Core I/O board, or the bottom, since the core I/O is installed vertically.

Pete

Shalom,

You may be deliberating a little too long here.

Comes down to it, its not likely you are going to do damage by pulling the power cord, though I don't recommend that.

Go for service, then standby if TOC does not work.

TOC should be done however because it forces a crash dump which might provide you vital data for diagnosing a hardware or software induced failure.

SEP

Flip the switch to "Standby" (aka OFF) and that may trigger a shutdown but more than likely you are going to have to do a TOC or yank the plug.
