swinstall command fails.

Last step during clearcase 2003.06 installation.

/usr/sbin/swinstall -s /usr/conf/mvfs/CCASE-MVFS -S /usr/conf/mvfs/hpux10_session

The log says:
config: error in opening file -- /usr/conf/master.d/sysvipc-tune

Do you have that file?
$ ll /usr/conf/master.d/sysvipc-tune
-r--r--r-- 1 bin bin 349 Jun 5 2003 /usr/conf/master.d/sysvipc-tune

Did you install the latest patch bundles for 11.0?

Does above sysvipc-tune exist? If not, restore from backup.

/usr/conf/master.d/sysvipc-tune exists on my machine.

I am not sure if HWE1100 package is installed or not?

How can i check that Quality Pack - QPK1100 and HWE1100 are installed on my machine?

Shalom,

swlist -l product | grep -i hwe

That will tell you if HWE is installed. Keeping this up to date is a very good idea.

QPK1100 was already installed. To check HWE1100, do a swlist and look for it:
# swlist | grep HWE1100

Now you are getting these errors:
WARNING: No such device, tunable, or cdio mvfs.
Ignoring the following line.
mvfs
config: cannot open file -- /stand/build/dlkm.vmunix_test/system
config failure.

HWE1100 B.11.00.0206.5 Hardware Enablement Patches for HP-UX 11.00, June 2002

# swlist | grep QPK1100
QPK1100 B.11.00.64.4 Quality Pack for HP-UX 11.00, March 2004

These are the patch bundles which are installed on my machine.

But the issue is still appearing.

Clearcase 6 installation is not smooth without successful execution of this command -

/usr/sbin/swinstall -s /usr/conf/mvfs/CCASE-MVFS -S /usr/conf/mvfs/hpux10_session

I can only assume your system is appropriately hosed and you can't install ANY software that requires a kernel regen.

You can test this by using SAM to change the value of a kernel parm, maxdsiz (increase it by 1). If that fails with the same error, that would indicate a class problem.

I tried changing the kernel configuration parameter - maxdsize and processed the new kernel.

It gives the an error saying:

Cannot build a kernel using /usr/sbin/config.
Stop.
config:make did an exit(1)
The command exitted with exitcode -71.

You didn't answer this:

They indicate that you need the direct output of /usr/sbin/config and more details of what is being made. You could try executing the commands from the log, if system.SAM is there:
# cd /stand/build
# /usr/sbin/config -c conf.SAM.c -l config.SAM.mk /stand/build/system.SAM

If the above config command doesn't give any more output, you'll have to edit the makefile to remove "@" at the beginning of the make rules so you can see what commands are executed.
