Hello,

Just been advised one of my Network Printers needs to move to another floor in the building. Its moving to a floor point on the same same subnet, so I guess it's just a case of changing the address in SAM and Stop/Start the scheduler???

Or are there other thing to do before the Printer knows the new IP?

This is what I plan to do:

#lpshut <PRINTER name="">
SAM
Change Printer IP Address
EXIT SAM
#lpshed <PRINTER name="">

Go to lunch.

Can someone please advise.

Regards
Nigel</PRINTER></PRINTER>

Hi,

If I need to change the IP address of a Physical Printer, where do I make the change? Just looked in SAM and there's no options for the printer IP address. Do I just make the change in /etc/hosts??? Thats the only place I can see the IP address for my printer.

BTW, I've never setup a printer in HP-UX, so I could be looking in the wrong place.

HELP.

R.
Nigel

hppi only works for HP network printers using an HP JetDirect LAN card. If this is the case, then changing the IP address is much, much simpler than using hppi or SAM (which runs hppi). But if your printer is not using an HP network card or is served by some other computer (linux, Windows, etc), then your printer is a "remote" printer and the fastest way to change it is to use SAM to delete it and add it back with the new address.

For HP JetDirect network cards, just run these two commands:

removequeue -q <PRINTER_NAME>
addqueue -q <PRINTER_NAME> -h 12.34.56.78

where 12.34.56.78 is the new IP address. If you see: command not found, your /etc/PATH file must be updated with the path: /opt/hpnpl/bin

If you need to modify the default printer settings, see the man page for modifyqueue. You may not have seen the printer option list for HP network printers: man net_ljx000</PRINTER_NAME></PRINTER_NAME>

But for NON-JetDirect Printers -- WHERE are the IP addy/hostname of the printer stored? Is it in a binary file somewhere? I checked /etc/lp and none there....

we have a pressing issue to change IPs on hundreds of printers on about a dozen servers each with ~ 3,000 print queue definitions!
