Syslog listens at port 514. If your cisco is sending the messages at this port, you should receive the mail unless you told your syslog not to listen by running it with -N option.

-Sri

Hi,

if you want to log messages from cisco router to syslogd you could use this:

At cisco configure as follows:

no logging console
logging monitor informational
logging facility local0
logging <IP_ADDRESS_OF_THE_HPUX_MACHINE>

At the hpux box add a line in the file /etc/syslog.conf:

local0.info /var/adm/syslog/cisco.log

(delimiter must be a tab char)

Now restart syslogd:

/sbin/init.d/syslogd stop
/sbin/init.d/syslogd start

At this point messages from cisco should be written in the file /var/adm/syslog/cisco.log

Good luck</IP_ADDRESS_OF_THE_HPUX_MACHINE>
