      <description>Hi,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;I have a 11.23 server and when I do in some files s compress it returns me error.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;#ls -l CIParch1_18457.dbf&lt;BR /&gt;-rw-r-----   1 oracip     dba        20970496 Oct 27 18:45 CIParch1_18457.dbf&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;#compress CIParch1_18457.dbf&lt;BR /&gt;#echo $?&lt;BR /&gt;2&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;#ls -l CIParch1_18457.dbf&lt;BR /&gt;-rw-r-----   1 oracip     dba        20970496 Oct 27 18:45 CIParch1_18457.dbf&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Does anyone what is happening?&lt;BR /&gt;Thanks a lot of,&lt;BR /&gt;Carmen.&lt;BR /&gt;</description>

      <description>Hi!&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;exit 2 means that it could not compress the files without using force.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Try adding the "-f" option, that might help.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Yours&lt;BR /&gt;Danny</description>

      <description>Sometimes it really helps to actually use the man pages; I admit that is a radical concept. A "man compress" would have told you that:&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;These commands return the following values upon completion:&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;0 Completed successfully&lt;BR /&gt;2 Last file is larger after (attempted) compression&lt;BR /&gt;1 An error occurred&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;You would have also found that you could use the -f or -z option. The -z is actually better in that it does not actually force a compression when no compression or negative compression occurs.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;</description>
