Todd,

Your btlan5 is using hppci100conf, I think this driver is built into core kernel. you do not have to install any fileset.

WK
The reason I ask is that it shows up as unclaimed for the s/w state, and unknown for the h/w type.

I did run ioscan -f and insf -e but it still doesn't show up.

AFAIK, btlan5 was used to recognise A5230A/B5509BA/B5509AA ethernet adapters in 11.0. In 11i, the drivers is already include in OS core.

You should not have problem using this card in 11i. Post output of ioscan -funC lan.

BTW, did u install the network card yourself? Did u notice the hp part number label on it? It should say A5230A or B5509xA.

If it is the right card, try install in other pci slots.

Or is it possible its a different type of adapter which require diff type of driver such as igelan or iether.

Rgds

That is correct. In 11.00 and earlier there were several btlan drivers, and I'm not sure if any of them (besides perhaps btlan3) were in the core OS:

btlan3 - for "core" 10/100 interfaces
btlan4 - for HSC 10/100 interfaces
btlan5 - for add-on PCI RJ45 10/100 interfaces
btlan6 - for add-on RJ45/AUI/BNC 10/100

In 11.11 (11iv1) and later those have all been merged into one "btlan" driver and made part of the core.

Given that 11.0 is now past EOL, unless you have a system which cannot run 11iv[123] it might be a good idea to consider an OS upgrade rather than hunt-down the btlan5 driver, which will be on one or more of the 11.0 "DART" CD's.
