USB External Hardive or Devices on HP-UX 11.11

Hi All,

Has any one came across of connecting and installing external Hardrive or usb flash disk on HP-UX unix 11.11.

I am trying to connect one and could not find any solution on the net.

What model server? The PA-RISC servers only USB devices are the keyboard and mouse. With the Itanium boxes, there might be more USB connectivity, I'm not sure.

I have tryed on my last hp course (unix inturnels) but I din't get the drivers woring propery, hp does not suport usb disk (jet), hp does not have the drivers.

HP-UX 11.11 is only running on PA-RISC boxes and on this systems only USB mouse and keyboard is supported.

On Integrity it is different - running Windows or Linux supports all USB the "normal" way, HP-UX (at least 11.31) is using the device file system (formerly known from linux - devfs) and supports a limited number of USB devices, e.g. DVD and specific drives.

As far as I know the only USB devices supported on PA-RISC 11.11 servers are keyboards and mouse.

The solution to adding disk apace is to use approved storage.

Pete I am using HP-UX Worksation J6700.

Yes Steven it has 2 USB ports and I have only connected Mouse & Keyboard.

But I like to connect External USB Drive and trying if there is a way.

You can try, but you will see there is NO way ;-)

There are no drivers for such devices!

What I meant, if there is way or if any one has tried it I like to try it as well.

More over we cannot say its impossible or it will not happen, as other BSD based Unix, Unix System V and Linux platform supports USB devices.

well...this *has* been asked many times before.

the answer is no, it's not supported on that OS / Hardware.

Personally, I doubt that it ever will be, but you don't seem to like that answer.

You might try attaching to a windows box and using windows sfu to nfs mount it....

Yup, I think I might need NFS for data sharing.

The closest I got was "HP-UX 11iv3/v2 Support with iLO/vMedia and USB Devices"

The document you already found is probably the only one available at the moment.

For your information - this is a part out of an ioscan taken from a rx3600 running 11.23 for a USB connected DVD drive. As you can see there is a special driver instance for the USB
